from New York City and no matter how many times I hear the song
My Love I melt and cry.


It's a gorgeous spring day out there today temperature wise.
We have had a record November for these gorgeous days.

Oh Christmas Tree





We celebrated at the Rainforest Cafe for our Grand Angels 11th birthdy and
yesterday we put our tree up.
I always put it up for her birthday (November 24th) and don't take it down
until after my precious Grandmother's birthday and my cousin Wendy's birthday.

My brother-in-law opened the bottom drawer of my sister's bureau and
lifted out a tissue-wrapped package. "This," he said, "is not a slip.
This is lingerie." He discarded the tissue and handed me the slip. It
was exquisite; silk, handmade and trimmed with a cobweb of lace. The
price tag with an astronomical figure on it was still attached. "Jan
bought this the first time we went to New York, at least 8 or 9 years
ago. She never wore it. She was saving it for a special occasion. Well,
I guess this is the occasion." He took the slip from me and put it on
the bed with the other clothes we were taking to the mortician. His
hands lingered on the soft material for a moment, then he slammed the
drawer shut and turned to me. "Don't ever save anything for a special
occasion. Every day you're alive is a special occasion."

I remembered those words through the funeral and the days that
followed when I helped him and my niece attend to all the sad chores
that follow an unexpected death. I thought about them on the plane
returning to California from the Midwestern town where my sister's
family lives. I thought about all the things that she hadn't seen or
heard or done. I thought about the things that she had done without
realizing that they were special. I'm still thinking about his words,
and they've changed my life.

I'm reading more and dusting less. I'm sitting on the deck and admiring
the view without fussing about the weeds in the garden.

I'm spending more time with my family and friends and less time in
committee meetings. Whenever possible, life should be a pattern of
experience to savor, not endure. I'm trying to recognize these moments
now and cherish them.

I'm not "saving" anything; we use our good china and crystal for every
special event-such as losing a pound, getting the sink unstopped, the
first camellia blossom.

I wear my good blazer to the market if I feel like it. My theory is if
I look prosperous, I can shell out $28.49 for one small bag of
groceries without wincing.

I'm not saving my good perfume for special parties; clerks in hardware
stores and tellers in banks have noses that function as well as my
party-going friends'.

"Someday" and "one of these days" are losing their grip on my
vocabulary. If it's worth seeing or hearing or doing, I want to see and
hear and do it now. I'm not sure what my sister would have done had
she known that she wouldn't be here for the tomorrow we all take for
granted.

It's those little things left undone that would make me angry if I knew
that my hours were limited. Angry because I put off seeing good friends
whom I was going to get in touch with-someday. Angry because I hadn't
written certain letters that I intended to write-one of these days.
Angry and sorry that I didn't tell my husband and daughter often enough
how much I truly love them.

I'm trying very hard not to put off, hold back, or save anything that
would add laughter and luster to our lives. And every morning when I
open my eyes, I tell myself that it is special. Every day, every
minute, every breath truly is...a gift from God.

1/2 oz. Disaronno Amaretto
2 oz cream

Add Bacardi Black Run, Disaronno Amaretto and cream to a cocktail shaker
and shake with ice. Strain into a martini glass and add a pinch of ground cinnamon
and a candy cane for garnish.

Shanghai Girls

She loves everything with Penguins this year my Christmas card theme was mostly penguins and I am buying everything with Penguins I see.

I am enjoying the book Shanghai Girls so very much by Lisa See.

I had my H1N1 shot yesterday. Arm is a little tender but no side affects thank God.

Regular flu shot in 2 weeks.
So many were sick yesterday going to the doctors......especially young children.

My son is away for another week travelling and I wish him safety and fun times.........

Soon his lovely bride to be will be going to visit him again in New Zealand for Christmas. They can both hardly wait.
I cannot believe I will see my son turn 31 this December. Where does the time go to.
Dropped off more Christmas gifts today and spent the morning at the beautiful Vernacular flowers. They did all the flowers for my wedding.
I feel as if I am in a fairy wonderland there.

Buying gifts for the little girl we sponsored through our church.
We do this every year and love to do this.

My dear friend Maggie has her blog up again and I am so thankful.
I missed her postings so much.

BUT.....Sisters are there, no matter how much time and how many miles are between you. A girl friend is never farther away than needing her can reach.....



When you have to walk that lonesome valley and you have to walk it by yourself, the women in your life will be on the valley's rim, cheering you on, praying for you, pulling for you, intervening on your behalf, and waiting with open arms at the valley's end.....



Sometimes, they will even break the rules and walk beside you....or come in and carry you out. Girlfriends, daughters, granddaughters.....


Daughter-in-laws, sisters, sister-in-laws, mothers, grandmothers, aunts, nieces, cousins, and extended family, all bless our life!


The world wouldn't be the same without women, and neither would I. When we began this adventure called womanhood, we had no idea of the incredible joys or sorrows that lay ahead. Nor did we know how much we would need each other.. Every day, we need each other still.

As I put a Christmas Wreath on my beloved Mothers Grave on Friday as well as my late beloved Sister Sharon a thousand memories of Christmas days of past came flooding back.

My Mom was so excited for Christmas she would give us little sneak previews of gifts and we were using our sparkle paints and other gifts well before Christmas..........
She worked very hard for us and always made each day special.

Love and hugs



Many of our neighbors have their Christmas trees up and our neighbors at the corner
their entire front yard is a festive Christmas displays that lights up for miles with all the lights

We need a little Christmas right this very minute

Mistletoe Kiss Martini For Justin and Ahram

1 1/2 oz cranberry flavored vodka
1 1/2 oz pineapple juice
1 oz coconut cream
Maraschino cherries for garnish

Mix all ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice. Strain into a chilled martini glass and garnish with maraschino cherries.

My Dear friend Nooshin in Australia sent me this photograph.
How beautiful is our world and all the bounties God sends to us
and the fabulous people we love who bring us so much joy.

What a Wonderful World
I see trees of green, red roses too
I see them bloom for me and you

I see skies of blue and clouds of white

Tree of Life written by my dear friend Carole Whynott

My Dear friend Carole just sent me this cook book and I am so anxious to try the fabulous recipes and was proud when she asked me to submit recipes to the cook book she was working on with many for the White Rock Hospice Society in British Columbia Canada.

The recipe book is fabulous and thanks dear Carole and friends for including the ones I submitted into the book.
I shall treasure this cook book always.
Your lovely word all throughout the book are an inspiration to me as always.




My dear friend Carole has written this lovely piece in the front of the cookbook
called "Tree of Life"

I am the ancient tribal fire where our ancestors met
and home of the winged and animals that live withinme.
I am tall and lush and provide your many needs.
I am one of the oldest forms of life on Mother Earth
and have within my plants that bring healing
I am the heart of yor heart on cold winter nights
and your friendsly shade
screening you from summer's hot sun.

I am the log granting you safe housing
and the bedon which you lie
I am the timber of the boart carrying you off to far off places
and the wood that cradles your child each night.

I am the talking stick, and prayer stick,
empowering the one who holds me
while teaching others silence.
The sky is my father and earth my mother
and all things my companion.

I am the paper in this book and
in all the books you read and cherish
