Happy Halloween

There was an old woman who had no family still living. Her only friend was a little white dog who went everywhere with her - with one exception. The dog loved the fireplace in winter, and after the old woman went to bed he would sometimes go and lie in front of the warm coals. Usually though, the dog slept at the very edge of the bed on a throw rug.

The woman wouldn't allow the dog on the bed with her, but if she became frightened or had a nightmare, she would put her hand down to the little white dog and he would lick it reassuringly.

One night the woman was reading her newspaper just before going to sleep. She shivered and pulled the comforter up around her as she read that a mental patient had wandered off from a nearby hospital. No one knew if the patient was dangerous of not; he was a suspect in the murders of several women who had lived alone.

The woman turned out the lights and tried to sleep, but she was frightened, and tossed and turned fitfully. Finally, she reached down to where the little white dog slept. Sure enough, a warm, wet tongue began to lick her hand. The woman felt reassured and safe, and left her hand dangling off the bed as she turned and settled in comfortably. She opened her eyes for a moment and looked through the open door into the living room.

There in front of the fireplace, sat her little white dog, gazing at the coals and wagging his tail.

Have a safe and spooooktakular Halloween

IT'S HALLOWEEN

It's Halloween! It's Halloween!
The moon is full and bright
And we shall see what can't be seen
On any other night.

Skeletons and ghosts and ghouls,
Grinning goblins fighting duels,
Werewolves rising from their tombs,
Witches on their magic brooms.

In masks and gowns
we haunt the street
And knock on doors
for trick or treat.

Tonight we are
the king and queen,
For oh tonight
it's Halloween!

Bavarian Snow

Photographs from my Uncle and Aunt in Bavaria
They already had snow this week

Love you both
Thanks for all you share
and your love♥

October Eve

Early one October Eve
(As the sun makes shorter days)
I went upon an evening walk
In the whispering Autumn haze
October nights are crisp and cool
Lit only by a silvery moon
A cricket 'neath a haystack chants
"There'll be a frost--come soon!'
The air's heavy with glistening dew
And lays a blanket on the lawn
It tip-toes in the pumpkin patch
Where it slumbers there 'til dawn
Our old scarecrow sways, and bends
In the cornstalks-- with the breeze
He wears a ragged pair of pants
With patches at his knees
The night owl whispers "who?-- who?--WHO!"
From a perch high in the old oak tree
"Shh...!" what's that scampering in the leaves?
Perhaps some goblins, I can't see?
Suddenly, I see shadows EVERYWHERE
Behind every shed and tree
I'm not sure...but I think I heard---
Some footsteps -----following me!
Smoke wisps ghost-like through the air
As in the October dark, I roam
Its time to end my evening walk...
...And RUN back safely home!

“Life is but a brief moment. The years go by quickly and old age arrives suddenly before we have an inkling. People desire so many things and waste their days in vain. Some yearn for gold, others for power, yet others for glory and a higher station. I wish you enough pain so that even the smallest of joys in life may appear bigger.
I wish you enough gain to satisfy your wanting.

So proud of my dear friend Shelagh in Halifax

What she wrote me

Yikes, I've done it! Registered for 6 hours of fitness on January 30th, 2010 at the Metro Center.

BustaMove.ca is a home grown charity event that is uniting the IWK and QE11(for the first time) in a quest to create an integrated Breast Health Centre.100% of the money raised will go towards purchasing digital mammogram machines(yay) I LOVE that! There are sponsors to cover the other admin costs.

I am excited to be doing this because it is a push to get myself healthier. I want to still be standing at the end of it all! (No, really:) and lots of people I love have been touched by cancer and I want to join the fight to eradicate it.

The event will be held at the Halifax Metro Center. 1000 participants. 6 continuous hours of different classes from dance to zumba to yoga! Breaks in between and healthy food on hand.. Richard Simmons is going to be one of the instructors I hear! They also plan on breaking two word records and have Guiness judges on hand. Don't know what those records are. Daunting!!

It is the motivation I need to start getting in shape NOW! I am nervous but excited and am happy to be supporting this cause that has touched my life.

Please donate what you can:) It would mean a lot to me:) If you want more info, please email me.

Thanks so much for reading all this,

If you wish to donate to her cause
she can be reached at

3 Girls and a Cupcake in Today's Windsor Star

Photograph and article in todays Windsor Star

Cupcake ladies Kathy St. Louis, left, Connie Baptista and Lily Desamito had ...Photograph by: Scott Webster, The Windsor Star, The Windsor StarThey call their company 3 Girls and a Cupcake, a bustling catering business that bakes and sells specialty cupcakes.

And, boy, are the girls having fun.

They've baked and sold dozens of their stylish cupcakes in signature pink boxes, filling orders from all over, from across the city and county.

They've recruited family who've been eager to help, including their moms. And in recent months they received one of the highest culinary compliments of all, from the domestic goddess herself, Martha Stewart.

Their cupcake design of Sesame Street's Cookie Monster was selected from hundreds of contest entries as one of this year's cutest. It's posted online in a photo gallery of 18 winners at the website www.marthastewart.com and can be found by using the site's search tool with the words "cutest cupcakes."

Word continues to spread. And the orders continue to arrive for the cupcake catering company and its three girls, Connie Baptista, of LaSalle, and Lily Desamito and Kathy St. Louis, both from Windsor.

All work part-time as clerical staff at Hotel-Dieu Grace Hospital and started baking as a sideline last December, after seeing cupcakes featured by Martha Stewart on TV.

"We did a baby shower, and it just started growing," Desamito said.

One job would lead to another, and people apparently have gone crazy for their cupcakes, requesting them for all kinds of occasions, such as weddings, baptisms, baby showers and a housewarming party.

Along the way, the girls have created and designed their signature style, with chocolate and hot pink colours, aprons, special pink delivery boxes, and, of course, the cupcake company's own Facebook page. They also developed their own cake, filling and frosting recipes, and they use inspected and licensed kitchens.

The cupcakes have helped a good cause or two, benefiting Hotel-Dieu and breast cancer. The business trio expect to sell their cupcakes again at the hospital Oct. 30, just in time for Halloween to raise money for the hospital foundation.

The business somehow fits into busy work and family schedules for all three women, who are married.

Still, there have been times when they've been so busy they've had to turn down requests.

But then, said Baptista, "When somebody wants cupcakes for a first birthday, well, how can we refuse?"

In turn, she added, the cupcake business has provided its own rewards, both as a therapeutic distraction and from the enthusiastic and positive response they receive from people who rave about their cupcakes. The cutest cupcake contest honour earned them wide exposure and a Martha Stewart book as a prize.

Some customers don't even ask about price, Desamito said. And some leave the designs up to them to choose and prepare.

For the record, the cupcakes can cost $2.50 each, about $30 for a dozen. More detailed designs can cost an extra 25 cents each. Various designs, as well as colours, fillings and icing, are available.

St. Louis said orders can be made by e-mail at the address 3girlsandacupcake@live.com and followed up from there for arrangements.

Baptista said because of their jobs they can easily relate to customers. But while their cupcake company may grow into its own bake shop eventually, all three enjoy working at Hotel-Dieu.

"We'll never give up our hospital work," Desamito said.

And along the way, Baptista said, "We really enjoy doing this, to see the look on people's faces for our cupcakes."

I wish for you to spend every day of your happy

In the end I believe God will ask you
How well did you love

I love you♥

I am a truly blessed woman to be loved so well.
Thank you God for your sweetness and all my blessings in life♥

When we are born, the soul we are given
Splits apart and half of it is given to someone else
So all of our lives we are looking
for the other half of our soul
And if we are lucky enough to ever find that person
Our soul says, "At last, I can rest.
I have found my missing half."
Then, it is said, we have found our soul mate
and we are happy and at peace
When I saw you, when we first met
You were familiar, you were known
When I saw you, when we first met
My heart recognized you as part of its own!

With This Ring

A painting we have in our bedroom given to us as a wedding gift
from my dear friend Bev♥

Why we wear our wedding ring on the 4th finger

I love this explanation.

Some people come into our lives and quickly go.
Some people move our souls to dance
They awaken us to understanding
with teh passing whisper of their wisdom.

Some people make the sky
More beautiful to gave upon
They stay in our lives for awhile
Leave footprints on our hearts
And we are never ever the same............

To my darling cousin who came yesterday for a visit
I love you
You made my day♥

I believe each human being has the potential to change
to transform one's own attitude, no matter how difficult
the situation. We are human beings and we have this marvelous
brain and marvelous heart, so there is potential to develop a proper
mental attitude through which we can have a happy more peaceful life.
Insight from the Dalai Lama

from my dear friend Dani's blog

thank you Dani

for this beautiful verse

Blessed are you who take time to listen to difficult speech:
For you help us to know that if we persevere,
We can be understood.
Blessed are you who walk with us in public places,
And ignore the stares of strangers,
For in your companionship,
We find havens of peace.
Blessed are you who never bid us to “hurry up”,
And more blessed are you
Who do not snatch tasks from our hands to do them for us,
For often we need time rather than help.
Blessed are you who stand beside us
As we enter new and untried ventures,
For our failures will be outweighed
By the times we surprise ourselves and you.
Blessed are you who ask for our help,
For our greatest need is to be needed.
Blessed are you when you assure us,
That the one thing that makes us individuals
Is not in our peculiar muscles,
Nor in our wounded nervous systems,
Nor in our difficulties in learning,
Nor any exterior difference.
But is in our inner, personal, individual self
Which no infirmity can diminish or erase.

My Wish for You

My Wish for You

Promise yourself to be so strong

That nothing can disturb your peace of mind,

To talk health, happiness and prosperity

To every person you meet,

To make all your friends feel that there is something in them.

To look at the sunny side of everything

And make your optimism come true.

To think only of the best,

To work only for the best, and

To expect only the best.

To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others

As you are about your own.

To forget the mistakes of the past

And press on to the greater achievements of the future.

To wear a cheerful countenance at all times

And give every living creature you meet a smile.

To give so much time to the improvement of yourself

That you have no time to criticize others.

To be too large for worry,

Too noble for anger, too strong for fear

And too happy to permit the presence of trouble.

Let Us Be Thankful

Where we love is home - home that our feet may leave, but not our hearts.

~ Oliver Wendell Holmes, Sr.

Wishing all of our loved ones and friends both near and far
a fabulous Thanksgiving Holiday
Embrace and Celebrate You and surround yourself with people that do
I love you all♥

Thank you Ahram for always thinking of me and doing so with
so much love♥

Thank you Ahram for the lovely photographs and for your love
Kisses♥

Thank you Ahram
I love you ♥

Photograph of my son taken on his most recent hike in New Zealand
Taken by a friend of his.
Thanks for sharing

Photographs in New Zealand taken mostly by my Son,
some by Ahram and a few by Justin's friends
Thank you for sharing♥

Let us be thankful
for the blessings we receive
Let us be thoughtful of others
Let us remember dear and close friends
Let us have faith in tomorrow
Let us live life as a Golden Rule
Let us find sunlight through the clouds
Let us believe
Let us be the people we have the ability to be
Let us have understanding
Let us say this thanks in prayer
To God, for the gifts He has given.

YOU are my SON Shine

Little baby ducklings in front of the University of Canterbury in New Zealand
Taken by my son

Justin in New Zealand

Most photographs taken by my son in New Zealand, and Ahram, and a few in this montage were taken by his friends.

He just returned from a hiking excursion and called us last night.
A most divine conversation.
I dreamed of him last night and felt as if it were a real visit.
I was in Heaven this morning

I am ever thankful for you my SON and for all of our blessings
and I am so happy you are loved so well by Ahram and she is a joy
to us all♥
We are both lucky to be loved so much by so many good people.

Thanksgiving Day

The day is cold but brisk and bright
Families gather, their hearts are light
Beams of happiness shed their ray
They are glad it is Thanksgiving day
Thanksgiving day with all it means
Tables laden, festive scenes
We wonder as we look around
as the turkey so tenderly browns
At the sauces and pies we see
Are we as thankful as we should be?

Thankful for our strength and health
For the richness of untold wealth
For the goodness of those we love
for the sun and stars above
For a country as great as ours
With the freedom of its powers
Let us bow our heads and say
"Truly this is Thanksgiving Day."

~Marguerite E. Halker

"I am thankful for a lawn that needs mowing, windows that need cleaning and gutters that need fixing because it means I have a home.... I am thankful for the piles of laundry and ironing because it means my loved ones are nearby." ~Nancie J. Carmody
