Tyson's Abuser has been caught
I pray the punishment is the most severe.
Thank you everyone for everything
All of us have been heartsick over this poor darling dog Tyson.
WINDSOR, Ont. — A 51-year-old Windsor man has been arraigned on animal cruelty charges in connection with a savage, sexual assault that has outraged residents across the city.
Anjalo Abeywickrema has been charged with one count of owner permit unnecessary pain, injury or suffering to an animal. Police allege it was Abeywickrema who abused the dog, a Labrador mix between one and three years of age.
The dog, Tyson, was found in severe pain earlier this week in a schoolyard in the 700 block of Louis Avenue by two city workers.
Humane Society officials arrived to find that someone had put a condom on the dog's penis and tied it off — likely more than 24 hours before officers found the suffering animal.
The dog's injuries were so severe it had to be euthanized.
Abeywickrema was arrested about 5:45 p.m. Thursday at Wyandotte Street west and Victoria Avenue.
He was admitted to Hotel-Dieu Grace Hospital with a medical condition and was arraigned from hospital via telephone.
He remains in custody pending a bail hearing set for 10 a.m. Wednesday.
