The Only magic I believe in is LOVE

A photograph I took of a picture in a restaurant I love to go to
Love is all you need

A quote I love from a movie I love

It erupts like an earthquake and then subsides. And when it subsides you have to make a decision. You have to work out whether your roots have become so entwined together that it is inconceivable that you should ever part. Because this is what love is. Love is not breathlessness, it is not excitement, it is not the promulgation of promises of eternal passion. That is just being "in love" which any of us can convince ourselves we are.

Love itself is what is left over when being in love has burned away, and this is both an art and a fortunate accident. Your mother and I had it, we had roots that grew towards each other underground, and when all the pretty blossom had fallen from our branches we found that we were one tree and not two.

The best thing to give to your enemy is
forgiveness; to an opponent, tolerance;
to a friend, your heart; to your child, a
good example; to a father, deference; to
your mother, conduct that will make her
proud of you; to yourself, respect; to all
men, charity.

praying for many right need.
The world is in need of so much love as are its people
and many need very special prayers.

When we honestly ask ourselves, which person in our lives means the most to us,
we often find that it is those who instead of giving much advice, solutions, or cures
have chosen rather to share our pain, and touch our wounds with a gentle and caring hand. The friend who can be silent with us in a moment of despair, or confusion, who can stay with us in an hour of grief and bereavement, who can tolerate not knowing, not curing,
not healing, and face with us the reality of our powerlessness, that is a friend who cares.

Halloween is Near

Greeting card by Mary Engelbreit
I scanned the one I gave to my darling friend Nia.

The Only Magic I believe in is LOVE

"Our destiny is not written for us ... it is written BY us .

"THE VELVET RIBBON" "A Story"

Once there was a man who fell in love with a beautiful girl. And before the next full moon rose in the sky, they were wed. They were very happy and to please her beloved husband, the young wife wore a different gown each night. Sometimes she was dressed in yellow; other nights she wore red or blue or white. But she always wore a black velvet ribbon around her slender neck.

Day and night she wore that ribbon, and it was not long before her husband's curiosity got the better of him.

"Why do you always wear that ribbon?" he asked.

She smiled a strange smile and said not a word.

At last her husband got angry. And one night he shouted at his bride.

"Take that ribbon off! I'm tired of looking at it."

You will be sorry if I do," she replied, "so I won't."

Every morning at breakfast, the husband ordered his wife to remove the black velvet

ribbon from around her neck and every night at dinner he told her the same thing.

But every morning at breakfast and every night at dinner, all his wife would say was,

"You'll be sorry if I do. So I won't."

A month passed. The husband could no longer looked into his wife's eyes. He could only stare at that black velvet ribbon around her slender neck.

One night as his wife lay sleeping, he tiptoed to her sewing basket. He took out a pair of scissors.

Quickly and quietly, careful not to awaken her, he bent over his wife's bed and

SNIP! went the scissors, and the velvet ribbon fell to the floor and

SNAP! off came her head. It rolled over on to the floor in the moonlight, wailing tearfully:

"I...told...you.…....you'd...be...s-o-r-r-y !"

A hot cuppa melts hearts
(from an email from a dear friend)
Muuuuuah Love you

By Julie Steenhuysen

CHICAGO (Reuters) - It may seem unlikely, but simply clutching a warm cup of coffee can bring on a flood of warm feelings, U.S. researchers said on Thursday in a finding that suggests a strong link between physical and emotional warmth.

"Physical warmth can make us see others as warmer people, but also cause us to be warmer -- more generous and trusting -- as well," said John Bargh, a professor of psychology at Yale University in Connecticut, whose research appears in the journal Science.

Bargh and Lawrence Williams of University of Colorado at Boulder ran a series of experiments to test the ties between physical temperature and emotional warmth.

They asked people to briefly hold a hot or iced coffee. Then they were given a packet of information about another person and asked to assess his or her personality traits.

Those who had held the warm cup of coffee were far more likely to assign "warmth" as a personality trait than those who held the icy beverage.

In the second study, volunteers held ice packs or therapeutic heating pads as part of a product evaluation study. Then they were told they could receive a gift certificate for a friend or a gift for themselves.

Those who had held the hot pad were more likely to ask for the gift certificate, while those who held the frozen pack tended to keep the gift.

"These very subtle and relatively simple cues are capable of having a meaningful impact on people's behavior," Williams said in a telephone interview.

He said imaging studies suggest temperature information -- both physical and interpersonal -- are processed in a region of the brain known as the insular cortex.

And he said these associations are likely formed in early childhood, noting that when an infant learns about love and physical closeness it typically happens while snuggling up to a parent's warm body.

"Taking a warm bath. Drinking a cup of tea or coffee. Chicken soup. It's not haphazard that we have a preference for these types of experiences," he said.

Williams said it is no accident that people in Western cultures looking to build new relationships often do it over coffee. "It's better than going out for ice cream," he said.

What my dear friend Karen wrote regarding this photograph:

I thought you would enjoy this picture of my Mom taken this Wednesday. in Stratford. She is posing with a painting of Jason in Allen's Alley aka Stratford's Walk of Fame, where caricatures of well respected Stratford musicians such as Loreena McKennitt, the Rebels, and Jason Hammer, of course, are immortalized.

And a poet I love

Early In The Morning

While the long grain is softening
in the water, gurgling
over a low stove flame, before
the salted Winter Vegetable is sliced
for breakfast, before the birds,
my mother glides an ivory comb
through her hair, heavy
and black as calligrapher's ink.

She sits at the foot of the bed.
My father watches, listens for
the music of comb
against hair.

My mother combs,
pulls her hair back
tight, rolls it
around two fingers, pins it
in a bun to the back of her head.
For half a hundred years she has done this.
My father likes to see it like this.
He says it is kept.

But I know
it is because of the way
my mother's hair falls
when he pulls the pins out.
Easily, like the curtains
when they untie them in the evening.

Tips for Tough Times

Everyone is on pins and needles about the economy.
Many are so very worried and many have lost their jobs and some their homes.
I pray for everyone and I pray it turns around soon.

I read a great article in one of our small local community papers
Called Tips for Tough Times
By Roger Campbell
Reflections on Faith

I will share it with you.

Tough times should not surprise us. In a text intended to comfort His disciples, Jesus told them trouble
was ahead but they could be cheerful through it all.
(John 16:33)

How is it possible to be upon down days?
Here are three life changing tips to help you survive and thrive during these very tough financial times.

1. Start each day THANKFUL
Thirty years ago my wife Pauline, was hospitalized for fives weeks with a condition the doctors said might take her life and after her miraculous recovery, I became ill.
During those difficult days, I sometimes went into my office at night to endorse cheques, so that my family
would have money if I died before morning.
Then a statement by A. W. Tozer, the late author of enduring Christian classics, changed everything.
"Thanksgiving has great curative powers," he wrote, and I decided to test his claom.
From that day to this, I have risen early to give thanks for everything that I used to take for granted.
This daily development of a thankful heart has improved my health and given me peace, even during tough times.

2. Increase your GIVING
Memories of my teen years frequently include hearing my pastor quote what must have been one of his favorite Bible verses:"Give and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over.:
(Luke 6:38)
Increasing our giving may seem difficult during tough financial times, but the bountiful return promised in this verse has always intrigued me and has often been acted on with dramatic results by people of faith.
On the wall of my office, I keep the following quote by John Bunyan, noted author of Pilgrim's Progress:
A man there was, though some did count him mad;
The more he gave away, the more he had.

Bunyan would not have considered deferring giving until a rise in the Dow; he believed in generous giving
now, expecting a greater return than on an earthly investment.
An alarming development in some churches in the current economic downturn is a decrease in missionary giving. In contrast, their forbears often increased donations for missions during tough times and their faith was rewarded.

3. Disregard the prophets of DOOM

On October 29, 1929, the stock market crash that brought on the great depression took place. Ever since then,
many have predicted a repeat.
They have all been wrong.
In the 1970's the survivalist movement pronounced a financial crash or a devastating military attack would occur.
They were wrong.
In the 1980's, a small army of panic peddlers convinced thousands that an economic crash was imminent.
They were wrong.
As the year 2000 approached, many were fearful a computer collapse known as the Y2K bug would bring
horrific economic results.
They were wrong.
Faith enables us to be calm in chaos, and ever trusting in tough times.

Thank you God for all of our blessings
One of the many crosses in our home
We take our faith very seriously

I had a dream that I went to Heaven and an angel was showing me around. We
walked side-by-side inside a large workroom filled with angels. My angel
guide stopped in front of the first section and said, 'This is the Receiving
Section. Here, all petitions to God said in prayer are received.'

I looked around in this area, and it was terribly busy with so many
angels sorting out petitions written on voluminous paper sheets and scraps
from people all over the world.

Then we moved on down a long corridor until we reached the second
section.

The angel then said to me, 'This is the Packaging and Delivery Section.
Here, the graces and blessings the people asked for are processed and
delivered to the living persons who asked for them. 'I noticed again how
busy it was there. There were many angels working hard at that station,
since so many blessings had been requested and were being packaged for
delivery to Earth.

Finally at the farthest end of the long corridor we stopped at the door
of a very small station. To my great surprise, only one angel was seated
there, idly doing nothing. 'This is the Acknowledgment Section,' my angel
friend quietly admitted to me. He seemed embarrassed 'How is it that there
is no work going on here?' I asked.

'So sad,' the angel sighed. 'After people receive the blessings that
they asked for, very few send back acknowledgments .'

'How does one acknowledge God's blessings?' I asked.

'Simple,' the angel answered. Just say, 'Thank you, Lord.'

'What blessings should they acknowledge?' I asked.

'If you have food in the refrigerator, clothes on your back, a roof
overhead and a place to sleep you are richer than 75% of this world. If you
have money in the bank, in your wallet, and spare change in a dish, you are
among the top 8% of the world's wealthy .'

'And if you get this on your own computer, you are part of the 1% in the
world who has that opportunity.'

'If you woke up this morning with more health than illness ... you are
more blessed than the many who will not even survive this day .'

'If you have never experienced the fear in battle, the loneliness of
imprisonment, the agony of torture, or the pangs of starvation ... you are
ahead of 700 million people in the world.'

'If you can attend a church without the fear of harassment, arrest,
torture or death you are envied by, and more blessed than, three billion
people in the world .'

'If your parents are still alive and still married ...you are very rare
.'

'If you can hold your head up and smile, you are not the norm, you're
unique to all those in doubt and despair.'

Ok, what now? How can I start?

If you can read this message, you just received a double blessing in
that someone was thinking of you as very special and you are more blessed
than over two billion people in the world who cannot read at all.

Have a good day, count your blessings, and if you want, pass this along
to remind everyone else how blessed we all are.

ATTN:

Acknowledge Dept.: 'Thank you Lord, for giving me the ability to share
this message and for giving me so many wonderful people to share it with.'

If you have read this far, and are thankful for all that you have been
blessed with, how can you not send it on???? I thank God for everything,
especially all my family and friends!!

Blessings with love

Great cooking blog

Stay, stay at home, my heart, and rest;
Home-keeping hearts are happiest,
For those that wander they know not where
Are full of trouble and full of care;
To stay at home is best.

Weary and homesick and distressed,
They wander east, they wander west,
And are baffled and beaten and blown about
By the winds of the wilderness of doubt;
To stay at home is best.

Then stay at home, my heart, and rest;
The bird is safest in its nest;
O'er all that flutter their wings and fly
A hawk is hovering in the sky;
To stay at home is best.

To Believe

To believe is to know that every day is a new beginning.
It is to trust that miracles happen and that dreams really do come true.
To believe is to see Angels dancing among the clouds
To know the wonder of a stardust sky
And the wisdom of the man in the moon
To believe is to know the value of a nurturing heart,
The innocence of a child's eyes
And the beauty of an aging hand.
For it is through their teachings we learn to love
To believe is to find the strength
And courage that lies within us.
When it is time to pick up the pieces and to begin again.
To believe is to know we are never ever alone.
That life is a gift and this is our time to cherish it.
To believe is to know that wonderful surprises
Are just waiting to happen.
And all our hopes and dreams are within reach.
If we only can believe.

My Aunt Betty Uncle Tom and part of their family
when my cousin Way came back from Vietnam

We are off to a memorial service today in Michigan
for the celebration of my late Aunt Betty who passed away August 5th, this summer 2008
and her husband Tom who passed away a few years ago.
Their children and all our family will make the memories beautiful.

What though the radiance which was once so bright
Be now for ever taken from my sight,
Though nothing can bring back the hour
Of splendor in the grass, of glory in the flower;
We will grieve not, rather find
Strength in what remains behind;
In the primal sympathy
Which having been must ever be..."
from the poem
SPLENDOR IN THE GRASS
William Wordsworth. 1770–1850

The soul doesn't evolve or grow, it cycles and twists,
repeats and reprises, echoing ancient themes common to all human beings.

It is always circling home.
~ Thomas Moore

Those who live forever in our hearts are never far away.

A dear friend of mine sent this to me when my first husband died in 1992.
I am not sure if she wrote it or who the author is
but I would like to share it now.

I, like the tree am strongly rooted to this earth, and I like the tree,
reach to the heavens, and receive the sun and the rain.
The sap of life flows through my trunk, and branches, dependent on the earth
and the heavens. But as dependent as the tree is, it produces its own sap,
it grows its own leaves to receive. The tree decides the design of its branches
and the thickness and the pattern of the bark. The tree is strong and proud.
It makes no apologies for its structure, or size or its location.
The insects caress it and feed upon it, and the winged creatures, both
night and day, are drawn to it in search of tranquility, peace and beauty.

Sometimes, the people come and say, "I must prune and trim the tree so that it will look this way or that way
and then it will be more acceptable for human eyes." So they cut the tree's branches.
The tree hurts, and it looks very different and its trunk does not bend. It remains rooted
and reaching, growing and producing, and the very same sap courses through
its trunk and branches. Sometimes the people even take the tree's sap,
but the tree is alive and produces more sap for itself, and the people are
amazed at the wonderful sweetness that this "object", the tree has produced.
Sometimes the tree grows so tall and proud it touches the lines that the people
use to manipulate nature. Then the people are afraid and they come with saws
to deform that tree.
But the tree is does not bend.
Until the final dying, it will not move.

I like the tree, stand affected yet not ordered by the earth or the heavens.
When you planted me in this humble plot, it became my space to grow.
From the earth and the heavens I draw my energy and nutrients,
but I also respond and produce.

Like the tree, I respond with, and in spite of, and I like the tree,
produce my own.

Tranquility is the sweet sap that now flows through my veins and love is my fruit.
An everlasting love.
And although these fragile attributes I produce, I stand tall, and proud and strong,
somewhat alone and untouched. Forever adored by you and loved by you
and now totally at peace.

Love Never take it or those you love for Granted

This was sent to me via an email from my darling friend Judy in Georgia.
It deeply touched my heart especially on our Canadian Thanksgiving weekend.
I thought it was too beautiful not to share with all of you.

My prayers continue for Judy and her family as her husband
awaits his surgery tomorrow.
God bless you all real good~
Here's to bright beautiful healthy
days ahead.

Here the little bird's mate is injured, and her condition is very appalling.
Here he brings her food and attends to her with love and compassion, bringing her food to sustain her.

He is shocked with her death and tries to move her.
He finds out that his sweetheart is dead and will not come back to him - and he cries with adoring love.

He stands beside her and screams, saddened of her death

Finally as he becomes aware that she will not return to him and has departed.
He still stands vigil beside her body in deep sorrow.

Photos of these two birds said to have pictured in the Republic of Ukraine, where the bird tries desperately to save his mate.
Millions of people cried after seeing this picture in America and Europe. It is said that the photographer sold these picture for a nominal price to the most famous newspaper in France, and all the copies of that newspaper were sold out on the day of publishing these pictures.

A Love Story is a Fairy Tale Hand Written by God

Our wedding day
Willistead Manor
I married by Prince Charming

Until the 12th of never I'll still be loving you.
I thank God for you every day my handsome guy~

Love is not finding someone to live with;
it's finding someone you can't live without.

Willistead Manor is a 36-room mansion nestled within a 15-acre park. It offers gracious accommodations for weddings, receptions, meetings and other special events.

It was built by Edward Chandler Walker, second son of Hiram Walker, and named in honour of the builder's older brother, Willis Walker. Designed by noted Detroit architect Albert Kahn to reflect 16th Century Tudor-Jacobean architecture, it was built with the ingenuity of 20th Century amenities.

Pre-arranged tours are available, particularly during the month of December.

The most important thing I know
about living is love.
Nothing surpasses the benefits
received by a human being
who makes compassion and love
the objective of his or her life.
For it is only by compassion and love
that anyone fulfills successfully their own
life's journey.
Nothing equals love.

Being a Christian is like being a pumpkin. God lifts you up, takes you in,
and washes all the dirt off of you. He opens you up, touches you deep
inside and scoops out all the yucky stuff-- including the seeds of doubt,
hate, greed, etc. Then He carves you a new smiling face and puts His light
inside you to shine for all the world to see.
Happy Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone

Family, Friends, Tradition
It all adds up to Thanksgiving
I hope you have a fabulous weekend
shared with great family and friends, food and God's most richest blessings

To Believe:

To believe is to know that every day is a new beginning
It is to trust that miracles happen
And dreams really do come true,
To believe is to see Angels dancing among the clouds
To know the wonder of a stardust sky
And the wisdom of the man in the moon.
To believe is to know the value of a nurturing heart
The innocence in a child's eyes
And the beauty of an aging hand
For it is through their teachings we learn to love
To believe is to find strength
and courage that lies within us
When it is time to pick up the pieces and begin again.
To believe is to know we are never alone
That life is a gift, and this is our time to cherish it.
To believe is to know that wonderful surprises
Are just waiting to happened
And all our hopes and dreams are always within our reach.
If only we believe.

Happy Thanksgiving
Cherish your many blessings and give THANKS to God.

Verse below From a Thanksgiving card I received from a dear friend.
If we measure success
by the number of lives
we touch and the ways we reach out to others
and truly make a difference
Then it is hard to imagine a life more richer than yours.
Thankyou so much for you~
I love you all so much
I wish you the most wonderful Thanksgiving
Each day have a loving and thankful heart~
Embrace the holiday with love and peace.

October Daze...........

From a beautiful card from my dear friend Bev
I am truly blessed with the most wonderful people in my life.

I open the door. The gorgeous guest from afar sweeps in.
In her hands are gifts, the gifts of hours and far-seeing moments,
the gift of mornings and evenings, the gift of spring and summer,
the gift of autumn and winter. She must have searched the heavens
for boons so rare.
~Abbie Graham

It is a rainy October morning this morning...............

My thoughts are with you can you feel them

I am reading the book The Shack and enjoying it
I am listening to the CD's my son brought me and loving them
and I am looking forward to our beautiful Thanksgiving dinner
which is this weekend here in Canada..............

I am praying for all those in need and for everyone.

What are you doing?

Thanksgiving

Gettin' together to smile an' rejoice,
An' eatin' an' laughin' with folks of your choice;
An' kissin' the girls an' declarin' that they
Are growin' more beautiful day after day;
Chattin' an' braggin' a bit with the men,
Buildin' the old family circle again;
Livin' the wholesome an' old-fashioned cheer,
Just for awhile at the end of the year.
Greetings fly fast as we crowd through the door
And under the old roof we gather once more
Just as we did when the youngsters were small;
Mother's a little bit grayer, that's all.
Father's a little bit older, but still
Ready to romp an' to laugh with a will.
Here we are back at the table again
Tellin' our stories as women an' men.

Bowed are our heads for a moment in prayer;
Oh, but we're grateful an' glad to be there.
Home from the east land an' home from the west,
Home with the folks that are dearest an' best.
Out of the sham of the cities afar
We've come for a time to be just what we are.
Here we can talk of ourselves an' be frank,
Forgettin' position an' station an' rank.

Give me the end of the year an' its fun
When most of the plannin' an' toilin' is done;
Bring all the wanderers home to the nest,
Let me sit down with the ones I love best,
Hear the old voices still ringin' with song,
See the old faces unblemished by wrong,
See the old table with all of its chairs
An' I'll put soul in my Thanksgivin' prayers.

A photograph I took this summer on one of our adventures
The Butterfly and the Cocoon

A man found a cocoon of a butterfly. One day a small opening appeared. The man sat and watched the cocoon for several hours as the butterfly struggled to force its body through the little hole.

Then it seemed to stop making progress. It appeared as if the butterfly had gotten as far as it could, and it could go no further. The man decided to help the butterfly in its struggle. He took a pair of scissors and snipped off the remaining bit of the cocoon.

The butterfly then emerged easily, but it had a swollen body and small, shriveled wings.

He continued to watch the butterfly. He expected that, at any moment, the wings would dry out, enlarge and expand to be able to support the body. He knew that in time the body would contract, and the butterfly would be able to fly.

But neither happened. In fact, the butterfly spent the rest of its life crawling around with a swollen body and shriveled wings. It never was able to fly.

What the man, in his kindness and haste, did not understand was that the restricting cocoon and the struggle required for the butterfly to get through the tiny opening were Nature’s way of forcing fluid from the body of the butterfly into its wings so that it would be ready for flight once it achieved its freedom from the cocoon.

Sometimes struggles are exactly what we need in our lives. If God allowed us to go through our lives without any obstacles, it would cripple us. We would not be as strong as what we could have been.

We could never fly.

Our Canadian Thanksgiving will be arriving soon

Me with my precious 93 year old Grandmother October 2008
She loves her steeped tea from Tim Horton's.

The answer is in the celebration of the Eucharist. The very word, "Eucharist" means "an action of thanksgiving." ...

It is our beautiful Thanksgiving week this week in Canada and we celebrate it on

the 12th or 13th either day. We will be having our dinner with our lovely relatives
on the 12th. We are grateful and happy for every blessing from God and our loved ones.

Everyday Thanksgiving

Even though I clutch my blanket and growl when the alarm rings, thank You, Lord, that I can hear. There are many who are deaf.

Even though I keep my eyes closed against the morning light as long as possible, thank You, Lord, that I can see. Many are blind.

Even though I huddle in my bed and put off rising, thank You, Lord, that I have the strength to rise. There are many who are bedridden.

Even though the first hour of my day is hectic, thanks when socks are lost, toast is burned, tempers are short, and my children are so loud. Thank You, Lord, for my family. There are many who are lonely.

Even though our breakfast table never looks like the pictures in magazines and the menu is at times unbalanced, thank You, Lord, for the food we have. There are many who are hungry.

Even though the routine of my job is often monotonous, thank You, Lord, for the opportunity to work. There are many who have no job.

Even though I grumble and bemoan my fate from day to day and wish my circumstances were not so modest, thank You, Lord, for life.

It all begins and ends with family.
If you are lucky enough to have family and loved ones treasure them.
